Life After the Foreign Service
IMPORTANT OPPORTUNITY FOR “RETIRING” SPOUSES
Is your spouse going to be hanging up the Foreign Service shingle and looking for new employment or retiring? The National Foreign Affairs Training Center’s Transition Center offers the Retirement Seminar and the Job Search Program to give assistance on this important life-changing transition. Maybe your spouse is already signed up for one of the upcoming Job Search sessions that start on the following dates:
- March 3, 2008
- August 4, 2008
- October 6, 2008
Did you know that you could attend much of the content in these workshops as well? There is extremely helpful job and career change information that is immensely useful to you both. Additionally, AAFSW sponsors a special session for spouses on Wednesday of the first week that deals with the issues you and your retiring partner undergo and highlights which sessions of the program you don’t want to miss.
You are welcome to join your spouse for the opening session of the Job Search Program, then will be directed to your special session at the appropriate time. Make sure your spouse knows that you are invited – you may not hear anything about this from the Transition Center’s announcement cable, and neither of you may realize this! It’s worth it to make your plans accordingly so you can attend as well.
Your participation as a spouse is FREE – just please let us know that you will be attending by calling AAFSW at 703-820-5420 or sending an email to office@aafsw.org. You need not be a member of AAFSW to enjoy the benefits of this important session. You only need a photo ID to get into the Foreign Service Institute in Arlington. If you know someone else who is retiring – please pass on this important information!
